At Las Palomas Beach and Golf Resort®, the annual celebration of Día de Muertos has become more than just an event; it’s a living tradition that connects our guests with the heart of Mexican culture. Each year, we open our doors to share this beautiful holiday, rooted in the belief that the souls of the deceased return for a visit with their loved ones.
This tradition is a profound celebration of life and memory. Throughout the resort, our collaborators, led by our General Manager, Héctor Vázquez del Mercado, dedicate themselves to creating an authentic experience. They work together to build colorful ofrendas (altars), which are decorated with marigold flowers, candles, photos, and the favorite foods of the departed. These altars serve as a welcoming beacon, a path for the souls to find their way home.
The celebration culminates in a grand procession, a truly breathtaking spectacle where more than 300 of our collaborators participate, dressed in incredible costumes. As the parade winds down the main boulevard, the air is filled with traditional music and dance. Children line the streets, collecting candy handed out by the participants, adding to the joyful and festive atmosphere.
A highlight of the event is the presence of two monumental sculptures: Alfonsina and Poseidon. These towering skeletons, over 12 meters tall, are a tribute to the alebrijes—the vibrant and fantastical spirit guides of Mexican folk art. They stand as a powerful symbol of the journey between worlds, bridging the gap between life and memory.
The entire event is a testament to the warmth and generosity of our team, who are proud to share their heritage with our guests. Día de Muertos at Las Palomas has become a treasured tradition, inviting visitors not just to observe, but to become a part of our extended family during this very special time.
